The Keiflin Laboratory within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for an open, full-time Junior Specialist position, with an anticipated start date of May 1, 2019 or later. This will be a one year position with the possibility of renewal.
The laboratory is looking for an exceptional individual with particular emphasis in the area of Neuroscience and Behavior and ability to work in a collaborative environment. Dr. Ron Keiflin’s laboratory seeks to expose the psychological processes and neural dynamics that mediate reward-related learning and decision-making, and the alteration of these processes in neuropsychiatric disorders such as addiction. The approach of the lab is multidisciplinary and integrates complex behavioral task in rodents, optogenetic and chemogenetic interference, in-vivo fiberphotometry. Responsibilities of the Junior Specialist will include managing rat breeding colony, training rats on behavioral tasks and drug self-administration, performing optogenetic/chemogenetic/ fiberphotometry experiments, and histological analysis of brain tissue. Depending on performance and workload, opportunities for independent research and scientific writing may be available.
To meet basic qualifications, applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology or a related field by the time of application.
In addition, the qualified candidate will have strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills evidenced by strong evaluations from references and outstanding grades in relevant courses.
At least one year of laboratory experience in behavioral neuroscience with rodents is also required. Experience with rodent surgeries, and brain tissue processing (sectioning, staining, immunohistochemistry) is preferred but not required.
