Barbara Thayer received her doctorate in Neuroscience and Behavior from the Department of Psychology (now the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences) at UCSB in 2009 under the supervision of Dr. Aaron Ettenberg. Her dissertation work examined mechanisms and neural structures underlying sexual motivation in female rats. She then joined the Research and Development department of a major medical device company where she developed models and assays examining tissue and immune responses to novel biomaterials. Professor Thayer is currently a full-time lecturer at California State University, Channel Islands, where she teaches courses in several topics, including Behavioral Neuroscience. Some of her current research projects investigate differences in how students learn using electronic media such as e-books.
