The extant literature on human mate preferences has been dominated by self-report
survey methodologies. We are currently designing studies in this lab to find
alternatives to direct self-report as means of inferring mate preferences. One
approach involves policy-capturing methodologies that use ratings of perceptual
stimuli in lieu of ratings of trait importance. This method was introduced in
the Roney et al. (2006) paper and a series of follow-up studies is now underway
in the lab.
