Computer Merit Badge Test |
|
|---|---|---|
|
At
the San Marcos Fifth Dimension site, students have the opportunity to
earn the rank of "Computer Expert." This is based on their ability
to run various different computer programs, on both PC and Macintosh computers.
The questions on this merit badge test ask the students to perform a number
of basic computer tasks, such as identifying parts of the computer, starting
programs from hard drives and disks, and using word processing programs
and games.
Computer skills of this sort are certainly useful to students, since the students will certainly be confronted with computers again in both education and in their careers. The development of these skills within a Fifth Dimension program is especially useful for lower income students, whose families may not have a computer for the student's use at home. One note: The test, as written, uses pieces of software that may not be available at all Fifth Dimension sites, and the test can obviously be altered to make use of games and hardware existing at the test site. This test was developed by Miriam Schustack at California State University, San Marcos. The test is copyrighted, and permission is granted to use the test to assess student learning at any Fifth Dimension site. You may obtain any of the following: |
