Undergraduate Studies: Research Opportunities

Lab:
Visual Perception Laboratory (Foley)
Project:
Context Effects in Pattern Vision
Description:
Humans are very good at seeing patterns and telling them apart. The processes that underlie this capacity are complex and not yet understood. Our ability to see patterns depends greatly on the context within which they are presented. Other patterns presented close in time and space to a target pattern have large effects, sometimes increasing our ability to see the pattern and sometimes decreasing it. This project investigates these context effects and uses them to develop a model of how pattern vision works.
Duties:
Independent research students (99/199) will first be subjects in an experiment and then will conduct the experiment with other subjects. They will analyze and interpret the data in collaboration with the professor.
Additional Requirements:
3.0 grade point average, at least one course in perception.
