In the UCSB Psychology Department, Professors Eckstein, Foley, and Loomis study human visual performance with particular emphases on how optical information is analyzed to extract a representation of a scene, while Professors Jacobs and Reese study the biology of vision and its relation to behavior. These faculty have active research laboratories and are well funded by extramural agencies. Together, the vision science faculty and students in the Psychology department function as an informal research group that bridges between the formally defined Cognitive and Perceptual Sciences and Neuroscience and Behavior graduate programs.
