Areas of Interest:

Andy's work explores the evolutionary psychology of human cooperation. In collaborative work with Leda Cosmides, John Tooby, & Tess Robertson, he's used experimental studies to examine the conceptual and motivational elements necessary for coalitional cooperation. This work has principally examined the rules the mind uses to define others as free riders on a collective action. In addition, Max Krasnow, Tooby, Cosmides, & Andy have used simulation studies to understand how psychological mechanisms for cooperation evolve given ancestral cue-structure. Other interests include evolutionary game theory, the psychology of mating, how evolved psychology gives rise to cultural variation, and functional neuroimaging.
