Dawa Tarchin Phillips

Dawa Tarchin Phillips is a visiting researcher from The Institute of Compassionate Awareness (TICA), a 501c3 public benefit institute based in Santa Barbara, California.  He is its founder and currently serves as its Executive Director.

The institute’s research and activities are centered on secular mindfulness meditation training, self-esteem/self-confidence development, and awareness based leadership training for school children and young adults.

He is a progressive scholar and lecturer, classically trained meditation teacher, Buddhist Lama and former Buddhist monk. He is a graduate of the Association des Haute Etudes en Tibétologie (A.H.E.T.) in France and a member of the Dhagpo Lama Council.

His other interests and activities include furthering research in progressive Mind Science, socially responsible entrepreneurship and the development of conscious business practices. He speaks English, German and French fluently.

He is currently collaborating with Professor Jonathan Schooler on research to the effects of secular mindfulness meditation training on the cognitive abilities, social adjustment, emotional intelligence, delinquency and academic performance in school children.
