Jessica Hehman earned her Ph.D. in Developmental and Evolutionary Psychology from UC Santa Barbara in 2009. Since then, she has been working as an Assistant Professor at the University of Redlands while continuing to collaborate on research with Daphne Bugental. Her research interests include investigating the effects of ageism on the life course outcomes for older adults. Specifically, she is interested in the self-fulfilling effects that exposure to ageist treatment has on the physical, cognitive, and psychological well-being of older adults. The objectives of her research are to identify (1) individual differences of older adults that lead to more positive (versus more negative) life course outcomes, and (2) the types of social interaction and communication that enhance well-being in older adults.
