Nicholas
Giudice
Postdoctoral Researcher

Dr. Giudice received his B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology from Providence
College and went on to do his graduate work at The University of Minnesota,
Twin Cities. In 2004, he completed his Ph.D. in Cognitive and Biological
Psychology. His dissertation research, under the supervision of Professors
Gordon Legge and Herbert Pick, addressed spatial learning and
navigation in real and virtual environments rendered using visual and
verbal displays. Following his graduate work, Nicholas
received a NIH Postdoctoral fellowship. He came to UCSB in January of
2005, where he currently works in Professor Jack Loomis's laboratory.
His research interests include multi-modal spatial cognition, comparing
spatial learning and navigation with and without
vision and the extent to which functionally equivalent spatial representations
can be developed between the senses (vision,
touch, 3-D spatial sound and spatial language. Other interests include
the development of spatial displays and accessible
navigation systems for use by blind and low-vision wayfinders.
