Current Research: Benjamin E. Reese

Dr. Reese's research focuses on the comparative organization of the retina and visual pathways, on the clinical relevance of that organization in humans, and on the developmental events which underlie it. Recent studies have examined the control of cell survival in the inner retina; the role of neurotrophins in the differentiation of retinal neurons; the determinants of photoreceptor connectivity; the developmental plasticity of horizontal cells; the proliferation and cellular dispersion of clonally related neurons within the developing retina; and the formation of retinal mosaics.
