Loy Lytle holds BA degrees in Psychology and History from the University of California, Santa Barbara. After receiving his Ph.D. degree in Psychology from Princeton University, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Neuropharmacology at M.I.T. in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was appointed to the faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at M.I.T. and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor prior to returning to his alma mater at UCSB in the Department of Psychology in 1977. He served as Vice-Chair and Chair of the Department of Psychology, is a past recipient of a prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellowship in Neurosciences and a member of several different professional societies (including the American Society of Pharmacological and Experimental Therapeutics’ the American Institute of Nutrition; Society for Neuroscience; International Society of Developmental Psychobiology, and the International Association for the Study of Pain) . Professor Lytle is a past president of the UCSB Sigma Xi Society and currently is President of the Western Association of Summer Sessions Administrators, Director of the Office of Summer Sessions, and Dean of Extended Learning Services at UCSB.
