After receiving her BA in Psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1985, Professor Collins completed her PhD in Social Psychology at the University of Southern California in 1990. She returned to UCLA for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Psychology from 1991 to 1993, and then served as a professor of Social Psychology at the State University of New at Buffalo from 1993 to 1997. Dr. Collins joined the Psychology Department at UCSB in 1997. Professor Collins is the author of more than 25 articles and book chapters on close relationships and health psychology. She has served on the Editorial Board for Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin and Personal Relationships, and as the Editor of the ISSPR Bulletin (the news journal of the International Society for the Study of Personal Relationships). Professor Collins includes among her professional honors the Harold J. Plous Award for outstanding contributions to teaching and research at UCSB in 2002; Honorable Mention for the best new scientific article from the International Association of Relationships Researchers in 2002; an Outstanding Faculty Member Award from the Residence Hall Association at UCSB in 1998; and the Young Investigator Award from the Close Relationships group of the Society of Experimental Social Psychology in 1991.
