The Department of Psychology at UCSB has cultivated a tradition of strong, empirically based teaching and research in contemporary psychology. Our award winning faculty offer vigorous undergraduate and graduate educational programs and carry out leading edge research in several core areas of psychology including cognition and the perceptual sciences, developmental and evolutionary psychology, neuroscience and behavior, and social psychology.

Although we are a relatively small department (30 faculty members at this writing), we compete nationally with other top flight graduate programs. The multidisciplinary interests of our faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows form the basis of exciting new research collaborations with a variety of other disciplines, including anthropology, the biological sciences, communication, computer science, educational psychology and linguistics.

Our graduate instruction fosters both depth and breadth within and across specialty areas, preparing our graduate students to become future leaders in psychology. Simply put, the quality of our faculty, our staff, and students help rank UCSB's Department of Psychology among the best in the nation.
