The Molecular Biology of Addiction

This course is intended to provide students with a forum in which to explore recent advances in our understanding of how repeated exposure to drugs of abuse impact intracellular signaling molecules and the relevance of drug-induced changes in receptor signaling for addiction-related behaviors.  Topics covered include: animal models of addiction, research approaches to study the molecular biology of addiction, second and third messenger signaling pathways, and the regulation of gene transcription.

Prerequisites: Psy 1, 5, 7, 111; full Biopsych major standing.
Please note this course is cross-listed with a graduate seminar; therefore seating will be limited to those with senior standing, and preference will be given to students with high academic standing as well as those students with Psych 134 and/or 115.
